FEATURING THE OFFICIAL COAT OF ARMS OF THE CITY OF EXETER

For your consideration is a magnificent late Victorian sterling silver and genuine pique-work pocket box.

THE HERALDRY & CRAFTSMANSHIP

The lid features a finely detailed, hand-inlaid silver full achievement of the City of Exeter Coat of Arms. The inlay work is exceptionally crisp and complete, beautifully showcasing:

 The central tripartite castle shield (representing Exeter/Rougemont Castle).

 Twin winged pegasi supporters.

 A demi-lion rampant crest holding a cross-topped orb.

 The city's historic motto ribbon reading: "SEMPER FIDELIS - EXETER".

The delicate silver pique wirework is completely flush, intact, and securely embedded in the top with no lifting or missing sections.

MATERIAL & TRANSMUTATION

The lid is crafted to be transparent. As demonstrated in the backlit gallery photographs, when exposed to light, the top exhibits a gorgeous, fiery translucent orange and deep mottled brown glow. The base and sides of the chassis are composed of solid sterling silver.

HALLMARKS & CONDITION REPORT

 Hallmarks: Stamped to the side of the base with original English hallmarks, including the Lion Passant verifying sterling silver purity (.925).

 Condition: Excellent antique condition. The sterling silver body shows minor, honest surface wear and pocket patination consistent with a well-cared-for piece of its age. The interior is clean, and the lid fits snugly and securely. The top is structurally sound with no cracks, chips, deep scratches, or shrinkage gaps.
